A bad year to Jaganmohan Reddy

Year 2012 brought smiles on many faces but one must still say that the year was unfortunate one at least to many political big wigs including the one in Andhra Pradesh-Jaganmohan Reddy. Son of late chief minister YS Rajashekara Reddy, Jaganmohan Reddy created tension in the Congress party by moving out and setting up his own party last year itself. But this year, it was a matter of grave concern to Congress in the state as by-polls resulted due to no confidence motion moved last year.

As Jaganmohan Reddy was busy in his by-election campaign, the country's premier investigation agency was going ahead with its probe into illegal assets case. It is known that based on the complaint filed by ex minister Shankar Rao, the Andhra Pradesh High Court directed CBI probe into disproportionate assets case. The CBI, which plunged into the action, has initially prepared charge sheets and found Jaganmohan Reddy as accused number one who allegedly dolled out favours to certain private companies under the influence of his father (who was then the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh). The investigation maintained that in return for these favours, those companies (which received benefits) invested in the companies run by Jaganmohan Reddy.

Jaganmohan Reddy denied all the charges and maintained that Congress was after him and he even told that CBI would arrest him. Whether he said it just like that or smelled his arrest, his words came true. The CBI initially served notices to enquire Jaganmohan Reddy on May 25. Jagan even received summons from the court to appear in person (as accused appearance) in connection with the case.

Susequently, CBI started questioning Jaganmohan Reddy on day one at Dil Kusha Guest House in Hyderabad on May 25. The investigation went on for three days. After three days, Jagan didn't come out of Dilkusha as he did on the other two days. Soon, Jagan's family members arrived at Dilkusha Guest House. It was then the media got to know that the family was informed about Jagan's arrest.

Jagan, since then had been lodged at Chanchalguda jail in Hyderabad under judicial custody. Noted lawyer Ram Jetmalani argued in Andhra Pradesh High Court for Jagan bail but to no avail. Later he appealed to the Supreme Court of India, which also turned down his bail petition. All in all, Jagan never thought he would be behind bars this Christmas. Year 2012 undoubtedly brought sorrow to all Jagan's followers. Lets wait and watch if 2013 has anything good to offer him.
