The heinous act of the Delhi Gangrape case has become a national outcry while people have protested all over the country. This shameful act brought the nation together while demanding the government to deliver justice to the victim. This was how the incident happened. The girl and her male friend were back from the theater at night standing in the bustop. While waiting for a bus they saw a private bus stop by them and the man in the bus told them that the bus was going to destination of the girl. Both of them climbed in but the bus wasn't heading in the right direction. This made the male friend suspicious. He raised objection on the issue after the six members started taunting the two about what happened later that night at the theater. They even shut the doors of the bus. The bus driver, Ram Singh, hit the male friend with a rod, he fell to the floor unconscious.

They took the girl to the back seat and outraged her modesty, abused her sexually one after the other. They threatened her that they would throw her out of the bus mentally torturing her for over 30 mins after which she too became unconscious. The girl was then thrown out of the bus along with the male friend. They six accused took away all their belongings along with their clothes. Immediately after, using CCTV cameras and technology, the police tracked down four accused including the bus driver while two are yet to be traced. Meanwhile the girl and her friend were admitted at Safdarjung Hospital. The girls health was very inconsistent, going from critical, stable to critical. She remained on ventilator support for most part of her hospital stay. Internal organs were severely damaged. The doctors had performed a surgery to remove the intestine completely which meant she could no longer eat anything and had to survive only on fluids.

The court said, "Accused Ram Singh is remanded to five days of police custody. Accused be produced on December 23." The whole nation moved to its feet, including politicians, activists, leaders and citizens of the nation. UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi sent letters to Shinde and Dikshit seeking immediate action. She also visited the victim at Safdarjung Hospital late on Tuesday night and inquired about the victim's health. Former IPS officer and activist Kiran Bedi urged the government to "Increase police presence overnight” She asked that at least 600 PCR vans be supported by citizen bodies and civil defence and a woman policeman. Students in Delhi gathered at the India Gate on Sunday while demanding justice. However a few hooligans joined the protests making the calm protests violent in which a few constables were hurt. They even rushed to the Rashtrapathi Bhavan though they were barricaded and cordoned off.

One police constable, Subhash Chand Tomar, 47, was fatally injured in the violence on Sunday at India Gate. He was on ventilator since he was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia. He succumbed to the injuries the very next day and was offered a cremation with state honors on Tuesday. The police had to use measures like water canons, tear gas and even lathi charge to keep the violent crowd under control. The issue was meanwhile taken up at the parliament and the government assured justice on the issue spelling victory for the victim and the protestors. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urged the people to remain calm after the protests turned violent on Sunday while they were enraged with the Delhi gang rape case in the city. He told the people in a telecast that "all possible efforts" would be taken to ensure security and safety of women in the country. "While anger against the incident is justified, violence will serve no purpose," he added. After the death of the constable, the intensity of the protests in Delhi had come down considerably. The girl still remains in critical condition with high susceptibility to infections.
