The lone captured terrorist in 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Ajmal Amir Kasab was hanged to neck till death by the Government of India, after President Pranab Mukherjee turned down the mercy petition of Kasab. The execution of Kasab took place in complete secrecy. In fact, just a couple of minutes before Kasab's death, the executioner was informed that Kasab would be hanged.

Kasab was hanged at Yerawada jail in Pune on 19 November early morning. After his execution, the Government of India informed Pakistan to take the dead body of Kasab. Since there was no response, Kasab was burried at Yerawada jail itself. If we look at the major happenings in Kasab's trail, the Supreme Court upheld the capital punishment awarded to Kasab on 29 August 2012.

On November 5, the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee has rejected the clemency petition (mercy petition of Kasab). Two days later, ie, on November 7, the union home minister P Chidambaram has confirmed that rejection of clemency by the President Pranab Mukherjee. On 18 November, a prison official read Kasab's death warrant and asked him to sign on it at Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai. In the wee hours of November 19, Kasab was secretly shifted to Yerawada Jail in Pune. The home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on 19 November morning informed the media that Kasab was executed.
