Yes, the late 70’s and 80’s, which witnessed Bollywood’s best action period is back after a lull of more than a decade. Bollywoood on the brink of churning out meaningful cinema is back in full force to witness the dishum-dishums, chases, dialogues, the witty romances and masaladar songs.
Starting the year with a bang was Deol’s starrer Yamla Pagla Deeewana. It witnessed the Deol’s bring back the genre for which they are famously known for. But the credit of bringing this masala films back to Bollywood should go to macho man Salman Khan, who in Dabangg laid down the steps for other makers to churn out such cinema.
Salman’s Ready is packed with all the commercial elements that a viewer wants to witness. Going by news, the film has already received a positive response at the ticket window and might turn up as the biggest grosser of the year.
Well, the commercial tag over here is attributed to only some stars whereas others remain to bring out meaningful action with a content which requires one to do momentous action. Other films lined up for the year tell this story.
Rohit Shetty’s Singham with Ajay Devgn is touted to be a mass masala entertainer. And considering it being a remake of Tamil hit of the same name, which had high octane
action expect it to be bigger and better in Ajay Devgn’s outing as Singham [Lion].
Singham will be fighting out with Rowdy Rathore in terms of the masala quotient as it too is also remake of a south film which had its share of violence. What separates Singham from Rowdy Rathore would be the comedy, which is more in original version of the soon to be made Rowdy Rathore starring Akshay Kumar.
In the meantime how can one forget Amitabh Bachchan as he is set to return to his angry young man days with Bbuddah-Hoga Terra Baap. The actor, who carved a niche not only for himself but to whole Bollywood by redefining action genre will be seen fighting out with baddies on July 1st. Salman Khan’s Bodyguard is also an action packed film releasing on the eve of Eid this year.
Excluding the aforementioned films, other films that are lined for next six months will have action that one can say as sensible. Sharukh Khan starrer RA.One is leading the pack under this category. RA.One slated to release on Diwali is about a superhero, who battles it out with a guy, who misuse the superpowers.
"RA.One", which is replete with visual effects, also promises to change the movie-going experience for cinegoers in India. For the first time, the Dolby surround 7.1 system is reportedly being installed in several multiplexes in the run-up to the film's release.
With SRK in the fray, one surely will expect action that is sober and meaningful. While another SRK starrer Don 2-The Chase Begins is on the verge of getting completed anticipate some great action from the film as promised by the director Farhan Akhtar. The film releasing on the eve of Christmas will see King Khan reprieving his role as a dreaded underworld don.
Abbas-Mustan’s Players, a remake of The Italian Job will also the join the bandwagon of action films lined up for this year. ‘Players’ with Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Bipasha Basu, Sonam Kapoor and Omi Vaidya in the lead will clash with Shahrukh Khan starrer Don 2-The Chase Begins on December 23.
Saif Ali Khan’s stint as an Indian James Bond in Agent Vinod is set to increase the action quotient this year. Though an official conformation is awaited regarding its release, the film is slated to release in December 2011 or early January next year. Agent Vinod on the lines of a spy story has already been shot in international locales.
Meanwhile a recent poll conducted declared that RA.One is the most anticipated film this year followed by Hrithik Roshan starrer Agneepath, which too is an action drama with lots of blood shed in it. Hrithik is set to replay Vijay Dinanth Chauhan that was made famous by Amitabh Bachchan in original Agneepath [1990].
So on the whole, top stars in the industry are lined up with action in the latter part of this year. Some have already given work for their shoes while others are preparing for it and are you ready to walk to the theatres?
