There are certain roles in the films that can be played by only a few actors. The audiences do not imagine other actors in such roles.
Take for example, legend actor late N T Rama Rao. He was cut out for mythological roles and nobody could replace him in the roles of Lord Rama or Krishna.
Even his son Balakrishna looked pale in the role of Rama in his latest film Sri Rama Rajyam, when compared to NTR.
There was a joke that was doing rounds in the political circles after NTR joined politics: people won’t believe even if Lord Krishna himself descends from heaven to give darshan to the devotees, unless he resembled NTR. “If he is not like NTR, the people would treat even the God as a fake character,” they used to say.
Similarly, yester years’ superstar Krishna too had his trade mark characters. After he donned the role of legendary warrior Alluri Seetarama Raju, the Telugu people had simply erased the image of Alluri appearing in the real photographs still available. Now, Director S S Rajamouli wants to present Mahesh Babu, son of Krishna, in a character similar to that of Alluri. This character is supposed to sport a long beard with a bow and arrow in his hands.
There is no doubt that Mahesh Babu can do justice to such a role to a large extent, as in terms of appearance and performance, he resembles his father.
Though Mahesh Babu’s fans are excited about this new character, Krishna’s fans are not happy and they are, in fact, opposing the very idea. They want Krishna’s image as Alluri to be indelible. If Krishna himself convinces them, their resentment won’t be a hindrance at all.
As Nagarjuna’s ‘Rajanna’ has registered a solid success, the scope for such biographical movies has now widened.
