One classic example for this is the figures for ‘Dookudu’. While the film has undoubtedly scored a hit, there is a big question mark still looming over the actual collections it has made. The fact that Mahesh Babu enjoys a strong following is understood but the rate at which the makers have been projecting the figures, the future films of Mahesh might be crossing the records set by the Hollywood movie ‘Avatar’. And the interesting bit is, those who follow Mahesh will believe that is true.
In a way, given the rate at which technology has been playing a dominant role and the cost of film making going up, the pressure to generate collections is also high. However, that is not the rate at which the audience can buy the tickets (at hiked prices) and come to the theatres. Keeping facts aside, the way the film folks tend to celebrate platinum disc functions and organize success meets, the very flavour of success is now becoming a doubtable thing.
So, the chances of hearing news that Mahesh Babu’s film has crossed ‘Avatar’ seem to be very much of a reality irrespective of its actual collections. In between, if someone like a Junior NTR or Ram Charan come up with a string of hits then they might also join the race and begin to aim for crossing the records of ‘Avatar’ with their future films, albeit in the fabricated figures announcement.
While this trend has actually brought down the genuineness of the film collections, the chances are high that when a film really scores well and gets some good money, its figures may not be trusted. For now, the Mahesh mania is on so let us see how long this continues…
