Director says 'I will never do that again in my career'

Star director Shankar is the only director in Kollywood who has never worked on a remake in his career span of 18 years. Nanban was his first remake and he is the only director in Kollywood whose movie has grossed over Rs 100 crore. He has a total of 11 films to his credit and nearly a 100 per cent hit is his credit.

Talking about his recent film Nanban success in Kollywood with media ,Shankar said that "Casting was very crucial to Nanban and it was a major challenge for me in this film. Another challenge was to stay true to the original script and retain the soul of the movie. I didn't want anything to be lost in the conversion of the film from Hindi to Tamil. I had to retain the emotions."

He went on adding "Nanban is not a literal translation of 3 idiots.The movie had to be fresh and yet retain its soul. I wanted to bring it as close as possible to the Tamil audience by making it earthy and simple. Even though, I was happy to hear ,a lot of people saying that they forgot the original while watching this film,I never expected to ever do a remake. This was unexpected, but I won't do another remake. Not even a remake of my own film!
